The loop is Brotato; the flavor is Primal Dread. The DLC does not replace the game’s run-based core — it maps it onto a Jungle with 20 waves, three new hazard types and an Evolution fork that changes both your build and the enemies you face. This page covers how a run actually plays; sister pages carry the Content List and the Mutations.
The Run Loop on the Jungle
- Wave — survive and harvest
Fight through dinosaur packs while collecting materials from kills. The Jungle’s confirmed hazards reshape the dance: charging packs punish straight-line retreats, flying enemies punish standing still, and terrain pits punish not watching your feet.
- Shop — spend and commit
Between waves, the familiar shop phase: weapons, items, level-ups. The DLC adds a fork here — on the Mecha path you can dismantle mechanized weapons for parts to reinforce others, turning the shop into a recycling decision, not just a checkout.
- Evolve — pick your side
The Evolution system pushes runs toward Mecha or Mutations, each with its own economy (parts versus Mutagen) and its own enemy escalation (laser-and-oil versus acid).
- Repeat — 20 waves deep
A full Jungle clear is 20 waves. Per-wave enemy composition is not published, so this wiki’s wave guidance builds from verified mechanics — your clears are the source of record.
Positioning Is the New Stat
The three confirmed hazards share one property: all of them punish bad positioning rather than low stats. That makes movement the Jungle’s true difficulty dial, and it scales with the danger level you pick — up to the base game’s Danger 5 Guide. Two general rules that fall out of the confirmed mechanics:
- Charge packs converge — crossing perpendicular to a charge line beats outrunning it, and pits become allies when the chase leads predators across them.
- Oil slicks (Mecha route) and acid (Mutation route) are ground area denial — fights drift constantly on those paths, so builds that need to plant themselves suffer.
Who You Bring
Ten new Characters are tuned for this content — Time Shifter, Veteran and Archeologist named so far — and the 40 new Items (Fossils that scale with fossil count included) plus 17 new weapons feed the same loop. Character kits and weapon stats are under in-game verification; the honest build advice until then is mechanical, not numerical: pick a survivor, pick an Evolution side, and let the Jungle tell you what the build lacks.
Gameplay FAQ
Is Primal Dread's gameplay different from base Brotato?
The run-based loop is the same; the DLC maps it onto the Jungle — 20 waves, charging dinosaur packs, flyers and pits — and adds the Evolution fork that changes builds and enemies.
How long is a Jungle run?
20 waves — the count is official. Per-wave enemy composition is not published, so time-to-clear varies with your build and danger level.
What difficulty should I start on?
Whatever you cleared base Brotato on, minus one step while you learn the hazards. The positioning tax from pits, packs and flyers is real even at lower dangers; work up to
